Career & Transition Services for Students

Transition planning is a collaborative process where students, families, school staff, and community partners work together to identify each student's strengths, interests, preferences, needs, and goals.
Academic & Graduation Planning
Students receive individualized guidance to monitor their academic progress, understand graduation requirements, and plan an appropriate pathway toward graduation.
Refer to the High School Graduation Requirement Tracking Form for detailed graduation requirements.

Career Exploration & Vocational Assessment
Students explore their interests, strengths, skills, and career goals through career activities and age-appropriate transition and vocational assessments.
Assessment results are used to guide career exploration, transition planning, work experiences, and postsecondary goals.

Work-Based Learning Experiences
Students gain hands-on experience and develop employability skills through opportunities such as:
  • Internships
  • Job shadowing
  • Workplace and career tours
  • Community-based work experiences
  • Career presentations and mentoring
  • Workplace training
These experiences allow students to explore careers, apply classroom skills in real-world settings, and develop workplace skills such as communication, teamwork, responsibility, problem-solving, time management, and professionalism.

Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP)
The Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) provides eligible students with paid summer opportunities to explore careers, develop workplace skills, and gain real-world experience.

Through our partnership with the New York City Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD):
  • Younger Youth (ages 14–15) participate in paid project-based learning focused on career exploration and skill development.
  • Older Youth (ages 16–24) participate in paid work experiences at worksites throughout the community.
SYEP provides students with opportunities to develop workplace readiness, explore career pathways, build independence, and gain valuable experience preparing for future employment.

SYEP has separate application, eligibility, enrollment, and participation requirements established by NYC DYCD. Students and families should contact CTS for additional information.
