Distraction Free Policy

Distraction Free Policy: 2025–2026
No Phones from 8:00 AM to Dismissal

Both NYC DOE and NYSED have implemented a "cell phone ban" for all students during the academic day. This creates a distraction free learning environment to improve academic engagement, social interactions and Mental Health. Exceptions will be made for students with medical complications.
Supporting Student Wellness: Governor Hochul’s Initiative
Governor Hochul has emphasized the growing body of research linking excessive phone use to increased anxiety, cyberbullying, and lack of focus in schools. By reducing access to phones during the school day, we aim to:
Improve academic focus
Increase in-person communication
Minimize distractions
Create a safer and more connected school culture
We appreciate your support in helping us create a more effective learning environment for all students.

Policy Summary
Effective September 2025, students will not be permitted to use or carry personal devices including cell phones and smart watches during the school day. This policy applies to the entire school day, from 8:00 AM until dismissal, including during lunch and transitions between classes. Exceptions will be made for students with medical complications.
