Academic Bowl Team Places Fifth in Regional Competition
Over winter break, the Lexington Blue Jays traveled to the Delaware School for the Deaf to participate in the Eastern Regional Academic Bowl competition on February 20 and 21. Lexington School for the Deaf was one of 16 schools competing at the event hosted by Gallaudet University Youth Programs.
The Academic Bowl is considered one of the academic equivalents of athletics; however, the key difference is that students use their intellect to answer questions across a wide range of subjects, including literature, history, mathematics, science, current events, the arts, entertainment, and sports.
We competed in one of two pools, called the Blue Pool, which consisted of eight schools. The results were as follows: READS (60–42), Western Pennsylvania School for the Deaf (54–72), Rhode Island School for the Deaf (56–48), Maryland School for the Deaf (42–80), New Bedford Public Schools (24–12), Rockville High School (37–34), and Delaware School for the Deaf (41–14).
Overall, we finished with FOUR WINS and THREE LOSSES in our pool. In the end, our school was tied with WPSD and Rockville. We ultimately placed fifth!
Let’s cheer for our Blue Jays’ brilliant team members: Brian L., Jesse C., Mamadou B., and Tristan P. The statistics show that the team has improved dramatically compared to last year. They were dedicated to practicing throughout the year, gaining an enormous amount of knowledge while demonstrating strong teamwork. We look forward to competing again next year! Please congratulate our players if you see them!
