Connecting Through Communication

May was National Speech-Language-Hearing Month. To honor the 2025 theme of "Connecting Through Communication," Lexington's speech-language pathologists (SLPs) asked students what speech, language, and communication meant to them. Click here to see a video of the students' answers!
There are many ways to communicate, including: American Sign Language (ASL), gestures, talking, writing, and AAC. What is AAC? AAC stands for Augmentative and Alternative Communication. AAC uses strategies to help individuals express their needs, thoughts, and ideas. Why is this important? Many students at Lexington use special ACC apps on their iPads to help them communicate. During the month of May, the Speech Department hosted a Language & Augmentative and Alternative Communication (ACC) challenge so students could experience how their peers use AAC to communicate!
