School closure extended through April 29th.

April 6th COVID-19 update from CEO/Superintendent Russell O. West.
Good afternoon, Lexington Family:

First, let me confirm what some of you may already know - Gov. Cuomo has extended school closures statewide through Wednesday, April 29th.

Following the Governor’s orders are essential in keeping our New York families safe as we approach the apex of this epidemic in our state. We need our families to continue to work with us in helping to school their children through this period. We do not want to promote a false sense of a “normal” Spring Break, as these times are anything but normal. No one will be going on vacation or spending time at the park or gathering with family members, as normally occurs during this time of year. By continuing our remote learning efforts, we are doing our part to keep everyone safe and healthy.

On another critical front, the New York State budget for July 1, 2020 - June 30, 2021 was passed last week in Albany.  Despite a potential $15 billion deficit, the Legislature did not cut the Education budget, as they decided to accept Federal Aid in the amount of $1.3 billion, with the caveat that Governor Cuomo reserves the authority to adjust the budget either monthly or quarterly. Consequently, the 4210 Schools Association was level funded for both Summer 2020 and School Year 2020-2021. It means that the budget for Lexington remains the same from the School Year 2019-2020. I am in agreement with my 4201 Schools Association colleagues that our advocacy work on February 26th was a success!

The Administrative Council Members and I now meet on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. We are focused on Continuity of Learning as well as Business Continuity for the entire Lexington Organization. In addition, we will begin working on a recovery plan to ensure a smooth transition back to the building eventually.

Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Stay healthy and safe.

Russell O. West
