SUMMARY Promote communicative and linguistic competence and optimize outcomes for profoundly deaf students 3-21 years of age.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES• Planning and implementing individualized intervention strategies that foster communicative competence
• Collaborating/consulting with classroom teachers
• Selecting and conducting appropriate assessments based on individual student needs
• Preparing evaluation summaries and annual review reports
• Develop treatment plans (IEPs) that are strength-based for overall educational improvement
• Participating in IEP meetings
• Engaging in continuing education and professional growth activities
• Support the school's Strategic Planning initiatives with an emphasis on strengthening the culture. Demonstrate commitment to the school purpose, vision, and mission.
REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills including proficiency in English and American Sign Language (ASL)
• Excellent interpersonal skills
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
• Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Ability to prioritize tasks and delegate them when appropriate
• Proficiency in American Sign Language required
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and related software
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCECandidates must have the following credentials:
• CCC-SLP (Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology)
• Master’s Degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited program
• ASHA membership
• TSHH or TSSLD certificate
• Knowledge of American Sign Language
• Experience working with Deaf students is desirable
SECURITY CLEARANCE
• Required clearance includes medical clearance, fingerprinted by the NYC Board of Ed, and SCR and SEL clearance
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
• Prolonged periods of walking around in and outside of the building
• Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times
