POSITION SUMMARY:
Provide mentoring services in home to families of preschool students.
PRIMARY DUTIES:
- Family support and consultation
- Provide services in the home
- Provide families with information in areas defined by the curriculum; ASL Language, Deaf History, Visual Communication, and Deaf Culture
- Perform other related duties as required and assigned
REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills; ability to engage with parents/families, students, and colleagues
- American Sign Language (ASL) proficiency required
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Trained in the SKI*HI Deaf Mentor Program
- Regents or Local High School Diploma, or GED required.
- Experience working with deaf students
SECURITY CLEARANCE:
- Required clearances include medical clearance, fingerprinted by the NYC Board of Ed, SCR, and SEL clearance
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must have the ability to sit and stand for prolonged periods of time
- Must possess the physical ability to demonstrate and participate in all class activities
- Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times
