Air Quality Alert Information

We hope this email finds you as well as can be, given these circumstances. As you are aware, NYC is experiencing significant air quality deterioration this week. While there is potential for conditions to improve by Friday morning, there is no guarantee.

New Yorkers are encouraged to limit outdoor activity to the greatest extent possible. City services will continue to be available for New Yorkers, but we City-run outdoor events will be postponed/canceled. Please see attached for health tips from the NYC Department of Health & Mental Hygiene (DOHMH) and NYC Emergency Management (NYCEM).

For today, Thu 6/08: Public schools are closed. Beaches will remain closed. Staten Island Ferries are operating on a fog schedule due to visibility, and those traveling on East River Bridges should drive at the posted speed limit.

For updates, please check the air quality forecast from local media outlets, the National Weather Service, or other weather and air-quality apps that you can access on the go. This is climate change in action, and we must continue to draw down emissions, improve air quality, and build resiliency.

With increasing rates of flu and other respiratory viruses as we approach the coming winter, the NYC Department of Health has issued a universal indoor masking recommendation for all indoor public settings including schools, child care facilities, lobbies, elevators, hallways, offices, public transportation (buses, subways) and crowded outdoor settings.
Here at Lexington, the safety of our students and staff is our absolute top priority. As always, we follow the guidance of our health experts and partners at the Department of Health. We strongly encourage every student and staff member to wear a well-fitting mask indoors. Also we encourage all to stay up to date with vaccinations, including flu and COVID-19.
