POSITION SUMMARY:
The Paraprofessional will collaborate with Faculty and Staff on issues that impact student achievement and engagement. Work closely with marginalized families regarding social service needs.
 
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Intervene as needed in crisis situations with agencies and services programs
  • Assist with referrals to community mental health programs and agencies (NYFH, hospital clinics) and advocate for incoming students, and current students/families
  • Assist with referrals to entitlement services, including local food banks and housing resources
  • Facilitate and coordinate the follow up steps needed for continuity of care
  • Provide guidance and resources to those who are concerned about or who have made a referral for a student or family
  • Provide students and families ongoing support and resources to reduce school absences
  • Conduct home visits and/or accompany families to appointments when needed
  • Record case information, complete accurately all necessary forms and produce statistical reports
  • Supports the school's Strategic Planning initiatives with an emphasis on strengthening the culture. Demonstrate commitment to the school purpose, vision, and mission.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • BA degree in Human Services or related field
  • In the absence of a degree equivalent years of work experience will be considered
  • Proven experience working with entitlements and benefits for people with disabilities
  • Proficiency in ASL or commitment to learn required; Spanish proficiency a plus
 
SECURITY CLEARANCE
  • Required clearance include medical clearance, fingerprinted by the NYC Department of Education, SCR, and SEL clearance.
 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Prolonged periods of standing and walking outside and meeting with employees, students, clients, and visitors.
  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
