Job Developer

The Job Developer works with Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing adults to develop goals for employment, independence, and productivity. The Job Developer markets the program to potential employers and obtains new employment contacts.

SUMMARY
Lexington Vocational Services, founded in 1988, is the largest job placement and support services agency in New York State that serves an exclusively Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing population.  We seek to maximize the quality of life for Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing adults by working together to develop goals for employment, independence, and productivity.  Lexington collaborates with employers to help ensure our clients' continued success in their job placement
 
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Develop job opportunities consistent with the Lexington consumers’ strengths, skills, desires, goals, and capabilities.
  • Conduct an ongoing search for new potential employers and job matches by marketing program
  • Attend business functions (i.e., trade shows and job fairs) to market programs and obtain employment contacts and opportunities
  • Develop and maintain networking activities
  • Work in concert with job coach and employer during the first ninety days of employment to ensure the appropriate placement
  • Maintain database (consumer & employer records) for all aspects of reporting and data collection
  • Coordinate staff job development and placement efforts
  • Review resumes and job applications, coordinate intakes
  • Write progress notes for each consumer
  • Heavy telephone and email work
  • Demonstrate the ability to communicate professionally with employers, consumers, and colleagues
  • Up-to-date/ongoing knowledge of consumers’ status
  • Support coordination of job coaches/employment specialists who are in the field
  • Participate in quarterly and monthly milestone state reporting
  • Ongoing contact with NYS VR counselors for vocational rehab planning, authorizations for placement, SE, CSP
  • Support the school's Strategic Planning initiatives with an emphasis on strengthening culture. Demonstrate commitment to the school purpose, vision, and mission.
  • Assume other duties as assigned by the Executive Director

REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES

  • Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL)
  • Knowledge of Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing populations strongly preferred                                                                     
  • Experience in networking, marketing, and employment
  • Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and delegate them when appropriate
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and related software
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • BA (preferred) with 2 years experience in human services/rehabilitation setting or;
  • AAS degree with 4 years experience in human services/rehabilitation setting
SECURITY CLEARANCE
  • Required clearance includes medical clearance, fingerprinted by the NYC Board of Ed, and SCR and SEL clearance

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
